Lexicon

Language has changed a lot since the Fall. While English is still the most spoken language it has had two centuries to develop and drift. Today, it is known only as Merikan and a few extra words have been added to fully describe the situations that arise in the post fall world.

  • 10-Ply: Soft, both physically or emotionally. Unable to handle hardship in the Wastes. Very derogatory.
  • Abuela: A really good cook whose food is delicious, but it terrifying when angered.
  • Assed Chaps: Pants.
  • Bandit: A person who survives by stealing from and sometimes killing others. Universally hated but far too common a behavior.
  • Blep: A typical greeting among Wulfen involving sticking you tongue out.
  • Boof: Nonsensical trip into the Wastes.
  • Burnt: Dehydrated to the extreme.
  • Caballero: Someone whose honor is beyond question. They can be trust to carry through a deal and their word is trustworthy.
  • Cujo: A, hopefully, fictitious creature said to eat people and look sort’ve human.
  • Chingasos: Derogatory term for Bandits.
  • Feelgood: Someone, typically male but there are women, whose doses on drugs in order to deal with Spirits in a more aggressive, direct manner.
  • Gay: General term for “Good”.
  • Ghoul: Somewhat derogatory term for Vaukderir, though, the least derogatory so it’s one of the more commonly used.
  • Glyph Stack: A book mostly, also any collection of printed words.
  • Grinder: Insulting slang used by Bandits directed at non-Bandits. Typically used to describe the act of everyday life or “Grinding”.
  • Gringo: Someone who has broken a deal or deals in a callous or careless manner. Considered untrustworthy.
  • Grub: Decent food.
  • Guzzler: Someone who specifically eats and drinks too much.
  • Lick: A small amount of something. A sample size used to convince someone of quality before bartering.
  • Mesmer: Someone who deals with Spirits in a more friendly, placating manner. An old term originating from when the first astrally sensitive people would be caught staring at spirits invisible to everyone else.
  • -Monger: A seller of something, for instance, Nom-monger is a seller of great food.
  • Noms: Really good food.
  • Primo, Preem: Particularly good salvage or equipment.
  • Pup: Young or particularly subservient Wulfen.
  • Radiator Meat: Someone killed by large, self propelled vehicle. Road kill.
  • Raider: Someone who has succumbed to Raider Madness and become a near feral killing machine. Sometimes form into groups.
  • Raider Madness: A mental affliction that causes someone to become a violent psychopath, commonly called a Raider.
  • Rotter: Derogatory term for Vaukderir.
  • Scav: Scavenger. Especially an old one.
  • Sink: Derogatory term for someone who is a drain on resources, who takes without giving back.
  • Thanks Obama: General term of displeasure in the face of random and uncontrollable situations.
  • Turbostraight: Highly derogatory term. Used to describe someone incompetent, weak or ineffective who tries to hide it with a loud, braggadocious and macho attitude. Someone who is “All talk, no walk”
  • Trojan: A potential sleeper agent of Bandits or worse, a grievous but all too common crime against Settlers.
  • Vine: Approximate unit of time. About 5-7 seconds. “Should take me a Vine to finish.”
  • Wastes: (proper pronoun) The wastelands that make up most of the known world. The area between settlements and other well traveled areas. Sometimes more personal items
